Project Overview
This project involved the conversion of an approximately 80-year-old, deteriorating two-car garage into a fully self-contained ADU studio apartment.
The homeowners wanted a stylish, comfortable space that could function both as a short-term rental and as additional living space when hosting family and friends. The goal was to create something intentional and well-built — not simply a converted garage.
The Vision
The existing structure was in poor condition and no longer usable, but it offered an opportunity to create valuable, flexible living space.
The homeowners envisioned a studio apartment that felt warm, durable, and thoughtfully designed — a cozy place that would hold up to frequent guests, and remain comfortable for visiting family over time.
The Work
The conversion required extensive structural work, replacement of the concrete pad, a full interior build-out, and careful coordination to bring the aging structure up to modern standards.
Particular attention was paid to layout efficiency, material selection, and construction sequencing to ensure the finished space felt open, functional, and solidly built. Clear communication and planning were essential throughout the process.
The Results
The completed ADU studio now serves as a successful short-term rental and a comfortable guest space for visiting family and friends.
Despite frequent use, the space has held up exceptionally well, continuing to receive strong reviews while maintaining its quality and comfort. The finished guesthouse feels intentional, durable, and well-suited to its dual purpose.
